AWARDS:

Three-year letterman at Fairfield HS, Fairfield, Iowa for Head Coach Pearl Smith. 
1st-team all-state 3-A linebacker, 1977
1st-team All Southeast Seven Conference linebacker, 1976,1977
High School All American - Football, Hammer Publications, 1977
Southeast Seven Conference Champions, 1975, 1976 and 1977.
Team finished as Class 3A semifinalist in 1975 and 1977 and was state playoff qualifier in 1976.

 

After the Shrine Bowl, Steve went to Iowa State on a football scholarship but  knee injuries forced him to give up football prematurely at the start of his redshirt sophomore campaign. Despite this disappointment, Steve went on to graduate from Iowa State with his degree in elementary education in 1982. Steve received his master's degree in educational administration and supervision from Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State) in 1986. 

Steve is now retired after a career as a public school educator in Iowa and South Dakota for 33 years (elementary teacher, coach, curriculum director, principal): the last 25 years as an elementary school principal.

Married to the former Donna Guy of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They have two daughters - Tara and Kelley.

Steve stated that he appreciated the opportunity of participating in the Shrine Bowl and pulling together with football players and coaches from all over the state of Iowa for this worthy cause.
